About The Original Chair Company

We are  based in Perthshire, Scotland. The Original Chair Company was started in 2006 by Kate MacKenzie who has always been inspired by her passion for chair design and interior design. This, together with her love of antiques and enjoyment of traditional upholstery turned a serious hobby into a career.

Our aim at The Original Chair Company is to offer a range of new and antique furniture of the highest quality, with a level of service to match from order to delivery. We hope this website will inspire you to choose upholstery from The Original Chair Company for your home.

Hand Made Upholstered Furniture

We have a collection of comfortable and timeless bespoke furniture for sale. Some of the pieces have been designed by Kate MacKenzie . The designs are classically inspired and their simplicity ensures they look as fine in a traditional setting as they do in a contemporary one.

We use high quality fabrics and pride ourselves in quality craftsmanship. Our chairs and sofas are made to the very highest specification using traditionally glued, screwed and dowelled solid hardwood frames where possible and any level of filling and springing.

Antique Upholstered Furniture

We also source, upholster and sell all types of antique seating, including armchairs, sofas, dining chairs and chaise-longues. Using our many contacts throughout the UK we can source chairs from any period; Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco and 1950's. We specialise in Nursing Chairs, Wing Back Chairs, Slipper Chairs, Chaises, and Chesterfields. French Polishing is another speciality.

We have a real passion for classic antique designs and use contemporary styling to produce eye-catching furniture that adds a touch of elegance to any room. We pride ourselves in our creativity and original style.

Our furniture restoration work is carried out to the highest standard. We offer a wide range of high quality fabrics for you to choose from. We are happy to discuss your preferences and then send fabric samples to you.

We also offer a finding service; if you are looking for a particular style of antique upholstered furniture we will try and source it for you.

We have a wide range of upholstered furniture designs and many individual original antique pieces. We have more new designs available than you see on the website and our handmade pieces can be made to fit any space. We have some beautiful high quality fabrics that we can bring along with us to help with inspiration and direction.
