The Original Chair Company is based in Perthshire, Scotland. It was started in early 2006 by Kate MacKenzie who has always been inspired by her passion for chair design and interior design. This together with her love of antiques and enjoyment of traditional upholstery was what she used to turn a serious hobby into a career.

Antique Upholstered Furniture

We source, upholster and sell all types of antique seating, including armchairs, sofas, dining chairs and chaise-longues. Using our many contacts throughout the UK we can source chairs from any period; Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco and 1950's. Styles include Gothic, English, French and Scandinavian.

We have a real passion for classic antique designs and use contemporary styling to produce eye-catching furniture that adds a touch of elegance to any room! We pride ourselves in our creativity and original style.

Our furniture is restored using traditional methods and materials and all work is carried out to the highest standard. We offer a wide range of high quality fabrics for you to choose from. We are happy to discuss your preferences and then send fabric samples to you.

We also offer a finding service; if you are looking for a particular style of antique upholstered furniture we will try and source it for you.

Hand Made Upholstered Furniture

We also have a collection of comfortable and timeless bespoke furniture. Some of the pieces have been designed by Kate MacKenzie . The designs are classically inspired and their simplicity ensures they look as fine in a traditional setting as they do in a contemporary one.

We use high quality fabrics and pride ourselves in quality craftsmanship. Our chairs and sofas are made to the very highest specification using traditionally glued, screwed and dowelled solid hardwood frames where possible and any level of filling and springing.

Let us help you create a style for your room, whether it be classic, traditional, elegant or country. We have a wide range of upholstered furniture designs and many individual original antique pieces. We have more new designs available than you see on the website and our handmade pieces can be made to fit any space. We have some beautiful high quality fabrics that we can bring along with us to help with inspiration and direction.
